Last week, I read a devotional on the Uplift app about Romans 2:4:
"Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?"
I also appreciated how The Message translates this passage:
"God is kind, but he's not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change."
I've read these verses many times over the years, but this time they caught my attention in a different way. Instead of reading them through the lens of faith alone, I found myself thinking about leadership.
As I reflected on this devotional, I thought about the managers I've visited over the years. The ones who made the biggest impression on me were often the ones who led with a calm presence, listened well, and treated people with dignity, even during difficult situations.
Am I leading with kindness and gentleness?
Am I creating an environment where people feel encouraged, valued, and supported?
There is something powerful about calm leadership, emotional steadiness, compassion, and the ability to guide others with both strength and grace. Kindness does not diminish leadership. It strengthens it.
What does strong and gentle leadership look like in your life right now?
For me, it often starts with slowing down.
When challenges arise, it can be tempting to react quickly. Sometimes the most effective response is to pause, take a breath, gather your thoughts, and respond with intention.
People may not remember every conversation they have with a leader, but they often remember how that leader made them feel.
Do the people around you feel appreciated?
Do they feel seen?
Do they know their contributions matter?
This week, challenge yourself to encourage someone in a specific and meaningful way. Let them know exactly what you appreciate about them. A thoughtful word of encouragement can have a lasting impact.
One of the simplest ways to bring more kindness and gentleness into your leadership is to listen.
Listening communicates care. It builds trust. It helps us better understand the experiences, challenges, and perspectives of those around us.
Ask follow-up questions. Be curious. Give people the space to share their thoughts before offering your own.
Kindness and clarity can work hand in hand. Gentleness allows us to lead with empathy while still setting expectations, addressing concerns, and moving forward with purpose.
As you move through this week, take a moment to think about someone who may need a little extra grace, encouragement, or understanding. Consider how you might support them in a meaningful way.

1. July 1-6
The first week of July offers plenty of opportunities to bring people together. From International Chicken Wing Day on July 1 to National Fried Chicken Day on July 6, there are lots of reasons to gather, share a meal, and build connections with friends, family, coworkers, or residents. You could even tie your celebration into the Fourth of July festivities. There is certainly no shortage of reasons to celebrate!

Things I'm Loving
- Unbreakable by Dr. Vonda Wright- This is one of those books I found myself recommending before I had even finished it. While the book focuses on aging well for women, the lessons on health, strength, resilience, and longevity offer valuable insights for people of all ages and stages of life. I came away with pages of notes and several practical ideas I plan to put into action.
-
Sun Shades Mineral Plus Sunscreen- I have tried quite a few mineral sunscreens over the years, including several of the more expensive brands, and this one has quickly become a favorite. It applies well, lasts throughout the day, and comes at a price point that makes it easy to recommend.
