Calling or Pressure?
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself whether you're being led by calling or by pressure?
At first glance, they can look surprisingly similar.
Both can keep you busy.
Both can ask something of you.
Both can require courage and effort.
But they feel very different. The challenge is that pressure often disguises itself as responsibility, ambition, or even opportunity.
Pressure pushes.
It tells you to hurry.
It whispers that you're behind.
It convinces you that your worth is tied to your performance.
It creates stress, anxiety, and the constant feeling that you should be doing more.
Calling is different.
Calling steadies.
It grounds you in who you are and what matters most.
It gives purpose to your effort.
Even when the work is hard, it creates a sense of alignment rather than obligation.
It inspires action without demanding perfection.
This is where discernment becomes one of the most important leadership skills we can develop.
Not every opportunity is your assignment.
Not every request deserves an immediate yes.
Not every expectation belongs to you.
In fact, some of the pressure you feel today may be coming from commitments that were never yours to carry.
Signs You May Be Operating from Pressure
- You say yes because you feel guilty saying no.
- You agree out of fear of disappointing someone.
- You constantly seek approval before making decisions.
- You feel rushed, reactive, and overwhelmed.
- You rarely pause long enough to ask what you truly want.
Signs You May Be Operating from Calling
- You feel a sense of peace, even when the path is challenging.
- Your actions align with your values.
- You feel energized by the impact, even when the work requires effort.
- You are able to make decisions without needing everyone's approval.
- You feel grounded rather than rushed.
Reflection Questions
If you're unsure whether you're operating from calling or pressure, start by asking yourself:
What feels aligned in your life right now, even if it's small?
What currently brings you peace, steadiness, or clarity?
Where have you been saying yes from guilt, fear, or obligation?
What would leadership feel like if peace led first instead of pressure?
This Week's Challenge
Before responding to a request, pause.
Give yourself permission to think.
You do not owe anyone an immediate answer.
Try saying:
- "Let me check my schedule and get back to you."
- "I'd like some time to think about that."
- "Can I give you an answer tomorrow?"
That small pause creates space for discernment.
Journal Prompt
Write down one thing you feel genuinely called toward in this season.
Then write down one burden, fear, expectation, or obligation that you're ready to release.
Because confidence grows when approval stops leading.
And sometimes the most courageous leadership decision we can make is choosing peace over pressure.

1. International Picnic Day (June 18)
Celebrating this holiday may depend on where you fall on the "love of summer" scale and where you live. Some of us enjoy picture-perfect picnic weather while others are battling humidity, heat, and mosquitoes the size of small cars.
If you fall into the latter category, maybe celebrate with an evening picnic or a snack under the stars when temperatures are a little more forgiving.
Either way, get outside and enjoy some time with others. If you're anything like me, there is nowhere in the world a hot dog tastes quite as good as it does outdoors.

2. National Iced Tea Month
Celebrate Iced Tea Month with an iced tea bar. Have some green, black, and herbal tea iced down and have flavored syrups, fruit, and herbs available for people to make their own flavor combinations. One of my favorites is coconut peppermint green tea. It's super refreshing!

Things I'm Loving
- In honor of Audiobook Month, I wanted to share one of my favorite reads of 2026. The Correspondent is a beautiful book, and the audiobook is especially well done because each character has their own narrator. Whether you read it or listen to it, I think you'll enjoy it—and it just might inspire you to dust off some stationery and write a letter to a friend.
- Spongelle Body Buffs. I first received one of these as a gift and, honestly, I was a little skeptical. Then I took it with me on a trip and quickly became a fan! The scents are amazing, the exfoliation is fantastic, and I love that everything is combined into one convenient sponge. It makes packing lighter and simplifies my shower routine while still feeling a little luxurious. If you're looking for a small treat for yourself or a thoughtful gift for a friend, these are definitely worth trying.

Freebies!
Something a little different this week!
I recently created a Summer Strong Challenge for our local Boys & Girls Club, and I thought you might enjoy it too. While it was designed with kids in mind, the activities encourage movement, wellness, gratitude, and healthy habits that people of all ages can benefit from.
Use it on your property, with your own children or grandchildren, with residents, or even challenge a group of friends to complete it together. Summer is a great time to focus on building healthy habits, having fun, and getting a little stronger—one small challenge at a time.

The goal isn't to do more. The goal is to become more aligned with the work, relationships, and opportunities you were actually called to steward.
Peace is often a better compass than pressure.
