What Would Change If You Stopped Proving Yourself?

The Weekly Reset

Practical encouragement for calm, clear, and sustainable leadership.

Leading Without Losing Yourself

Leading is not for the faint of heart. Whether you are leading your family, your team, your organization, or your community, leadership asks a lot of us. Over time, it can become easy to lose sight of ourselves in the responsibilities we carry.

I have heard so many women say, "I feel like I'm losing myself."

It is a common experience among leaders. Our titles become the first thing we think about. Mom. Wife. Teacher. Manager. Board Member. Caregiver. We become so focused on serving others that we forget the person underneath all those roles.

Before any title, you are you.

As we begin this month's focus on leadership and calling, I want to invite you to start with a simple question:

What would change if you stopped trying to prove yourself this month?

Take a moment to sit with that question.

Many of us carry pressure we were never meant to carry alone. Pressure to achieve. Pressure to perform. Pressure to meet every expectation. When that pressure builds, it often creates a sense of urgency that leaves us rushing from one thing to the next.

Steady leadership creates space to breathe.

Life unfolds over time. Growth takes time. Relationships take time. Meaningful work takes time. There is wisdom in allowing room for pauses, reflection, and recalibration along the way.

Your value is not determined by how exhausted you are at the end of the day.

That brings us to something many leaders struggle to embrace: rest.

Rest supports leadership. Rest strengthens leadership. Rest allows us to show up with greater clarity, patience, and presence.

If your energy reserves are running low, consider what would help refill them. A quiet evening. A walk outside. A conversation with a trusted friend. An earlier bedtime. Small acts of restoration can have a powerful impact over time.

As you reflect on your energy, consider your boundaries as well.

Sometimes a stronger boundary is as simple as turning off email notifications after work hours. It may mean letting a call go to voicemail and returning it when you have the capacity to engage fully. It could be protecting time for your family, your faith, your health, or your own growth.

Where could a clearer boundary create more peace in your life?

Boundaries create space for something equally important: healthy rhythms.

Our daily habits shape the direction of our lives. When our rhythms align with our values and goals, we create a foundation that supports both our leadership and our calling. Small, consistent actions often have a greater impact than dramatic changes.

As you move through this month, I hope you will give yourself permission to slow down enough to reconnect with who you are, what matters most, and where you are being called to grow.

You do not have to carry every responsibility at once. You do not have to earn your worth through constant activity.

You can lead with steadiness.
You can create healthy rhythms.
You can honor your calling while caring for yourself.

And that is a leadership lesson worth remembering.

Engagement Ideas

1. National Best Friends Day- June 8

Friendship is one of life's greatest gifts. If your best friend lives nearby, plan a coffee date, lunch, or walk together. If distance separates you, schedule a phone call or video chat. If it has been a while since you connected, send a quick text sharing a favorite memory or expressing your appreciation.

A small act of connection can brighten someone's day and strengthen a relationship that matters.

2. National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month

June is a great time to add more color to your plate. Whether you grow your own produce or rely on your local grocery store like I do, challenge yourself to eat the rainbow this month.

Looking for inspiration? Consider hosting a recipe swap with friends, family, or coworkers. Sharing favorite recipes is a fun way to discover new meals and enjoy more fruits and vegetables throughout the week.

Things I'm Loving

  1. Thigh Society Cooling Shorts: For the ladies who love dresses and spend time walking at a desk treadmill, these have become one of my favorite discoveries. They are comfortable, lightweight, and perfect for hot summer days. I have tried several styles and have been impressed with all of them.
  2. Easy Ricotta Pasta: This recipe was simple, flavorful, and earned my husband's approval, which is always a win. It came together quickly and made a delicious weeknight dinner.

The Weekly Reset Practical encouragement for calm, clear, and sustainable leadership. Mid-Year Heart Check After spending time with so many managers at convention, one thought stayed with me during the drive home. Growth doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like a conversation that would have felt intimidating six months ago. Sometimes it looks like someone asking a thoughtful question, sharing a new idea, or encouraging another manager. Sometimes it looks like quietly realizing,...

The Weekly Reset Practical encouragement for calm, clear, and sustainable leadership. Last week, I read a devotional on the Uplift app about Romans 2:4: "Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?" I also appreciated how The Message translates this passage: "God is kind, but he's not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change." I've read...
